This survey of designers and visitors explored factors that improve online experiences and came up with a number of (perhaps obvious) but nonetheless significant findings. The big takeaways (imho) are designers think visitors are better at navigating their sites then visitors really are. Clean design, clear indications of where you are (titling) , how you got there (breadcrumbs and nav indicators) and where to go (related topics) are all key.
